About

Hi, I'm Steve.
I lead development at Intelliz. I've spent 20 years in software — more than 10 of them building and testing web applications — on large codebases in financial services, insurance, telecom and B2B e-commerce, including the e-commerce platform for a national industrial-supplies distributor.
Along the way I kept running into the same problem: teams had tests, but didn't trust them. Suites were flaky, slow, or quietly missing the code that mattered. So I started building the tools I wished I had:
- playwright-repl and its Chrome extension Dramaturg — interactive browser automation with record and replay, in the terminal, the browser and VS Code
- nextcov — code coverage for Next.js apps from Playwright end-to-end tests
- msw-terrarium — isolated API mocks so tests can run in parallel safely
I write about what I learn on dev.to, including a six-part series on code coverage for Next.js.
Why testing, and why now
AI coding assistants let teams ship more code than ever, faster than anyone can review it. AI features inside products don't behave the same way twice. Both make automated end-to-end tests more important, not less. That's the work I focus on: helping teams move fast and still know their app works.
How I work
- Project-based, fixed scope. We agree what "done" looks like before we start.
- Working software early. Weekly updates, with tests running in your CI from the first week.
- Your team owns the result. Clean code, documentation and a handover session.
- Remote, from Ontario, Canada (Eastern Time). Working with teams across North America, Europe and beyond.
